FAQs

What if I need to cancel lessons I already signed up for?

You are welcome to cancel at any time however please keep in mind there is a $110 non-refundable fee required at the time of booking. Therefore, we will not be able to refund you $110 of your total payment. If you do not want to lose that security deposit we can reschedule your child for lessons at a later date. Please email us at s.hogan@infantswim.com to talk about canceling/rescheduling lessons.

What safety items do you recommend for my child?

ISR enforces NO body worn floating devices, like arm floaties, that impede swimming mechanics once lessons have begun. Life Jackets can be worn, but should be an approved floatation device and designed to float your child face up if they are incapacitated. I have curated a list of ISR accepted flotation devices and other accessories that are suitable for any child.

Do you offer refunds?

In the case I have to cancel classes, whether that be due to inclement weather, holidays, or personal matters, I will gladly issue you a refund for the lesson(s) canceled.

Furthermore, if you choose not to attend a lesson, refunds will not be issued.

Do you teach swimming lessons?

Yes! It depends on the age of the child, physically and mentally/verbally where your child is at on how much of a swim I’ll be able to teach. With Float being the MOST important part of the lessons that your child needs to have and that has to be concrete. From then on will be working on the float and swim while I am communicating this information to you daily.

Do you teach strokes?

Yes! The very fundamental strokes. As the child comes back to me with refreshers I am evaluating the child developmentally where the child is at now and how much more can we get from this child… stronger swimmer, more endurance and strokes. If the child is ready for strokes that is another accomplishment and another strength that I can teach the student. Which also makes the student a stronger swimmer.

Do you only teach infants?

No. As an ISR Instructor, I teach 6 months - 6 years old, but I have taught as old as 12 years of age.

Will I have to be in the pool with my child?

Nope! You are welcome to join me on the last day of the week for in-pool training, but otherwise, you never have to get in the pool. You are free to walk around the pool and be right next to us while I’m in the water with your child.

Is there any chance of dry drowning during ISR lessons?

NO! ISR Lessons are private (1:1) lessons. The Instructor is paying close attention to only your child. We monitor their breath control and any water intake. This is one reason why ISR lessons are only 10 min long each day.

How do I submit payment for each week of classes:

Effective January 2023, you no longer have to remember to pay your weekly tuition dues. Instead, you will be put on a secure, subscription plan that will automatically withdraw funds from your desired card on file. Once your child’s classes are over, the subscription plan will come to an end.

Why teach survival skills?

While yes I teach children how to swim it is also important to teach children survival skills. Any child/adult can swim but when you are ever out in a weird situation and can’t make it to the steps, ladder, wall, shore etc you should know how to float and relax to catch your breath. That is a necessity to anyone adult/child. You can only swim under water for so long.

What types of refreshers do you do?

It depends on the parent. I offer different types of refreshers:

I highly suggest that you come back to me around 4 months after the last time you saw me which cuts the lessons to 3 weeks. Price is $110 a week. You normally will have 2-3 refresher before you are done and you would just need to see me at the beginning of the summer.

Maintenance lessons students come back to me for one week ($110) every month till that is completed and then you can start coming to see me every year.

If you wait 6 months or later to come see me for your refresher I will have to book you for 6 weeks again. ($110 a week)

Why do younger children (newborn to 4 years old) need refresher courses?

Cognitively and physically they are growing so fast, and there is rapid change in their height, weight, and mental capacity as well. For instance, do you remember family vacations when you were one and a half? Nope. That’s why young children need refreshers to keep up with the educational side of the classes. Remember how fast your baby grew through clothes for their newborn phase, 3 month, 6 month and beyond? Think of how fast their bodies are growing and along with it - muscle strength and endurance. That’s the physical side of refresher courses. It’s all hand-in-hand when growing and learning.

Do lessons have to be Mon-Fri?
Why are lessons 10 min?
Do I need to have the 6 weeks of lessons?

Yes. ISR was founded by a doctor and psychologist. They researched and founded that children learn with consistency and for the lessons to be effective they have to be Mon-Fri for 6 weeks. They also founded with their research that children do not comprehend information and stop paying attention after 10 minutes and that is why we only teach 10 min. It is a very Intense 10 min of straight work.

How long does the foundations course last?

The foundations (the very first course students take) is a 6 week long, M-F course. Each class is one-on-one with me, and only lasts 10 minutes. We understand this is a commitment! Please choose a time wisely when you are booking your time spot.

Why are refreshers important?

Think of it this way. A child probably grows out of there clothes every 3-6 months or at least every year for bigger kids. That child is in a brand new wardrobe. This means that child is bigger, heavier and longer. As a child gets bigger and heavier you have to keep them updated on there swimming lessons. This not only keeps them a stronger swimmer (and actually every time they will get stronger as a swimmer in there refreshers) but this also keeps there confidence up. If you wait months/years from the child being in the water and you get back in the child losses there confidence and don’t know what to do with this bigger heavier body. This is why refreshers are so so important!

What if we miss a class?
What if we get sick?
What if we go on vacation?

If you miss a class, we will simply continue progress the next day. You will still need to pay for the days you miss. Within a 6 week timeframe, it is often a natural happening that you may miss a class from time to time, but please do try to be as consistent as possible.

If you are sick, please do NOT come to class. If you miss longer than a week due to illness, I will work with you on a solution to make up the lost time.

Please look far into the future when planning your time spot. If you will be out of town for any planned vacations, please wait until you can be in the Columbus area for the full 6 weeks.

Is my deposit refundable?

$115 of your payment upon booking is non-refundable to book your time slot as well as pay for the first week. If anything changes, Stephanie can try to work out a new time slot or book out a different start date. If there are no options, and you are not able to attend lessons within the calendar year, the first week’s payment is not refundable. We will do everything we can to make a new time work for both your family and our schedule!
